"Don't go to bed with your hair wet... you'll get arthritis in your neck."

That's just one of the many myths surrounding arthritis, a condition that 

affects ten million people in the UK today.

Another? The one you were doubtless warned of as a kid – that cracking your knuckles 

could cause it. 

The truth is there is no evidence to support Granny's theory.

Several studies have in fact put the old wives' tale to bed – including one by Dr Donald Unger, 

who cracked only his left hand knuckles every day for 56 years, never developing arthritis, 

but who received the Ig Nobel Prize for his efforts.

Another study simply visited 28 nursing homes and asked the residents with and without arthritis 

whether they had regularly cracked their knuckles, and again found no link.

New York-based rheumatologist Yusuf Yazici said: 

"I think this one started when older people with osteoarthritis heard kids cracking their knuckles.

 Rheumatoid arthritis treatments could increase the

 risk of shingles says German study.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a painful condition which is caused by the 

body's own defences - a so-called autoimmune disorder.

Drugs used to treat this and other similar conditions normally act by reducing the 

body's immune response. It is because the response is too high that the condition 

occurs in the first place.

However there can be side-effects, and a new Germany study has suggested that 

one such side-effect is the increased chance of shingles.

Shingles is the reactivation of the virus which causes chickenpox. 

Typically this is contracted as a child. 

However after the symptoms have passed the virus remains dormant in the body. 

It can then re-active, typically when the person is over the age of 50.

This re-activation is called shingles, and it can be very painful. 

The symptoms include blisters which can be very sore and itchy.

The study investigated the effects of Anti-TNF (anti-tumour necrosis factor alpha) 

therapy drugs which can help sufferers of Rheumatoid arthritis. 

It analysed data from over 5,000 patients and looked at different types of treatment. 

The researchers found that Anti-TNF drugs almost doubled the incidence of shingles.

Message To The Comedian Group ''Allah Made Me Funny''

All the Muslims are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to respect and venerate the words of Allaah, and to protect them from faults and shortcomings.

The Qur'aan is the word of Allaah and is one of His attributes. Allaah still speaks whenever He wills. This is what is indicated by the Qur'aan and Sunnah, and this was the view of the imaams of Islam.

Mocking the words and Book of Allaah, or trying to undermine their sanctity and respect, is blatant kufr -- no one would dispute that. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"If you ask them (about this), they declare: 'We were only talking idly and joking.' Say: 'Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?'

Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed..."

[al-Tawbah 9:65-66]

This aayah clearly states that those who mock Allaah, His Signs or His Messenger are kaafirs, regardless of whether they regard that as being permissible or not. Simply making fun of them is apostasy from Islam (riddah), according to the consensus of the Muslims, even if the person did not really intend to mock them but was "only" joking or trying to be funny.

I heard Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) saying.

"All the sins of my followers will be forgiven except those of the Mujahirin (those
who commit a sin openly or disclose their sins to the people). An example
of such disclosure is that a person commits a sin at night and though Allah
screens it from the public, then he comes in the morning, and says, 'O
so-and-so, I did such-and-such (evil) deed yesterday,' though he spent his
night screened by his Lord (none knowing about his sin) and in the morning
he removes Allah's screen from himself."

Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala says in the Holy Qur'an

قل إن كان آباؤكم وأبناؤكم وإخوانكم وأزواجكم وعشيرتكم وأموال اقترفتموها وتجارة تخشون كسادها ومساكن ترضونها أحب إليكم من الله ورسوله وجهاد في سبيله فتربصوا حتى يأتي الله بأمره والله لا يهدي القوم الفاسقين
Say, "If your fathers, and your sons, and your brothers, and your wives, and your tribe, and your acquired wealth, and the trade in which you fear a loss, and the houses of your liking - if all these are dearer to you than Allah and His Noble Messenger and fighting in His way, then wait until Allah brings about His command; and Allah does not guide the sinful." [Surah Tauba : 24]

This verse demonstrate encouragement, advice, proof and indication of the necessity to love Prophet Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. It is also sufficient to demonstrate that this duty is of tremendous proportion. It is an obligation and the right of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam.

Sandblasting jeans comes under fire in Bangladesh

Suman Howlader was thrilled to land a job in a Bangladeshi factory sandblasting new jeans 

to make them look old, but he now believes the diktats of fashion have exacted a heavy toll 

on his health.

After working for three years, he started vomiting blood, coughing badly and struggling 

to breathe before being admitted to a specialist respiratory hospital in Dhaka.

Workers' groups say Howlader and many others like him have been misdiagnosed as

 suffering from tuberculosis because of ignorance about silicosis -- an incurable disease 

caused by inhalation of silica particles.

The minute, fast-moving particles are released during sandblasting, a process used to

 give new jeans the "worn" look that has been popular for many years around the world.

Sandblasting has long been banned in Europe and the United States, but Bangladesh's 

cheap-labour garment factories still use it to condition jeans for top western brands.

Gucci, Levi's, H&M and Gap have all vowed to stop selling sandblasted products, 

while Dolce & Gabbana has been targeted in an Internet campaign to take a similar stance.

"One day, when I was working, blood started gushing out of my mouth and nose," 

Howlader told AFP from his hospital bed.

"They told me the work was safe. But the constant sandblasting made the room fill up with

 dust and sand. You end up swallowing and inhaling a lot of it."

Howlader fired high-pressure sand at denim jeans with just a cloth mask for protection, 

treating 200-300 pairs in a ten-hour day.

"Sandblasting is booming here," said Kalpana Akhter, general secretary of the 

Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity, which records many silicosis-like symptoms

among workers in the sector.

"Doctors are not looking out for silicosis, so cases get diagnosed as tuberculosis instead," she said.

As most Bangladeshi companies have no health insurance, many of those who become sick simply 

quit their jobs and return to their villages in dreadful health, she added.

Tens of thousands of Bangladeshi workers are involved and at least 500 factories use sandblasting,

 said Khorshed Alam, who runs a labour rights group.

"Workers hardly have any protective gear to prevent (silica) dust from entering their system," he said.

According to Alam, many large factories are aware of the health risks of sandblasting and to avoid 

potential liability they often subcontract out the work to small, standalone factories.

"We used home-made compressors and sand-guns, which are 20 times cheaper 

than the ones used by big jeans plants," 

Delwar Hossain, supervisor at the small Meridian unit in Dhaka, told AFP.

Because of the high pay -- 7,500 taka ($100) a month or double the minimum wage -- 

they have no shortage of workers like Mohammad Ilias.

With only a thin cloth wrapped around his face, the 21-year-old from a village 

in the country's remote north was blasting sand with a homemade pressure-gun 

onto a pair of new jeans.
